Fried Tacos
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning mix
- 1/4 cup water
- 12 small corn or flour tortillas
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, etc.
Instructions:
1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or turkey over medium heat until browned and cooked through, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks.
2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the cooked meat. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the onion is softened and fragrant.
3. Stir in the taco seasoning mix and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.
4. Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a separate skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.
5. While the oil is heating, warm the tortillas in the microwave for about 30 seconds or in a dry skillet for a few seconds on each side until soft and pliable.
6. Spoon a generous portion of the meat mixture onto one half of each tortilla, leaving a border around the edges.
7. Fold the tortillas over the filling to form half-moon shapes, pressing down lightly to seal.
8. Carefully place the filled tacos seam-side down in the hot oil, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
9. Fry the tacos for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
10. Using tongs, transfer the fried tacos to a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess oil.
11. Serve the fried tacos hot, topped with your favorite toppings such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, and guacamole.
Enjoy your delicious homemade fried tacos as a tasty and satisfying meal or snack!
