Shepherd's Pie
Ingredients:
For the meat filling:
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the mashed potato topping:
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your preferred type)
Instructions:
Prepare the Meat Filling:
1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
2. Add chopped onions and garlic, sauté until softened and fragrant.
3. Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned.
4. Stir in diced carrots and frozen peas, cook for another 5 minutes.
5. Add tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
6. Simmer the mixture for 10-15 minutes until the liquid has reduced and the mixture has thickened. Remove from heat.
Prepare the Mashed Potato Topping:
1. In a large pot, add the cubed potatoes and cover with water.
2. Bring to a boil and cook until potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
3. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
4. Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or fork.
5. Add milk, butter, salt, and pepper to the mashed potatoes. Mix until smooth and creamy3. Assemble and Bake:
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Transfer the meat filling into a baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
3. Spoon the mashed potatoes on top of the meat filling, spreading them out to cover the entire surface.
4. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the mashed potatoes.
5. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges are golden brown.
6. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
7. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious Shepherd's Pie with ground beef and shredded cheese!
